FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As much as we’d love to have you bring your bunny onsite, personal rabbits are not allowed in the Bunny Lounge. However, we host special event days for grooming sessions, educational classes, “Bun and Me” days, and even bunny birthday parties! During these events, no rescue bunnies are present, and the facility is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. For any of these events, we kindly ask that you provide proof of RVHD2 vaccination.

Can I bring my bunny to the cafe?

While we cannot accommodate them inside the cafe or the Bunny Lounge, they’re more than welcome to relax with you in our outdoor seating area. We are also located across the street from a park where your furry friend can enjoy some fresh air.

Can I bring my dog to the cafe?

In the first quarter, we’ll be partnering with the Save A Bunny Foundation. Our rescue partnerships rotate quarterly so we can extend support to as many organizations as possible, including groups like Rabbit Haven and Friends of Unwanted Rabbits. Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with these rescues through volunteering and donations, giving us valuable insight into the needs and care requirements of bunnies; we’re also exploring additional small rescue organizations that align with our mission and standards.

Which rescues are you working with?

How many bunnies are on-site, and what types of bunnies are going to be at the Bunny Lounge?

We typically have 10-12 bunnies in our Bunny Lounge. We work closely with each rescue to assess each bunny’s behavioral and socialization needs. While we don’t focus on specific breeds, we do ensure that all bunnies have been spayed/neutered, received the appropriate vaccinations, and are old enough for adoption.

How long do you keep the bunnies on-site?

If not adopted, bunnies on-site have a maximum tenure of 30 days. We also have a 24-48 hour holding period, during which bunnies remain in a designated area and are not available for interaction. This allows for them to become familiar and comfortable with the environment of the Bunny Lounge. Bunnies are observed daily and assessed weekly; if we determine a bunny cannot remain in our care, we contact the partnered rescue organization to ensure proper procedures are met.

How long do you keep the bunnies on-site?

Yes, the bunnies will be in their own playpens unless they are bonded pairs. Since we cannot monitor them 24/7, we have overnight cameras, as well as an interactive live feed on TikTok/Youtube.
For additional safety, our landlord, who is readily available, is a retired police officer who now serves as the President of the International Police Association and a park ranger. We have also installed a silent alarm and a front log that informs first responders about the number of bunnies on-site.

Are the bunnies adoptable? Can I foster a bunny/bunnies?

Partnered rescue organizations will conduct interview to ensure a good match between prospective families and bunnies. To do so, your contact information will be submitted to the rescue, and they will contact you directly to arrange an interview. Please note that a $120 adoption fee will be paid directly to the rescue.
Upon a successful adoption, Bunny Cafe SF, in partnership with Small Pet Select, will provide you with a gift basket that includes a litter box, hay, bedding, snack pack, pee pads, bunches of organic fresh greens, and pellets. Families who wish to foster are also welcome to inquire with us.

We have trained ‘Bunbassadors’ who meticulously record the daily intake of fresh greens, treats, and water; they also observe the pee/poop and general well-being of each rabbit. This information is kept on file and allows us to monitor the overall health of each rabbit. We also work with veterinarian(s) and volunteers with rabbit care experience local to San Francisco that are available for bunny wellness visits.
If bunnies need immediate attention, they will be brought to one of the emergency veterinary hospitals nearby:

  • SF SPCA

  • SOMA Animal Hospital

  • SAGE Veterinary Center San Francisco

  • North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic

  • Chabot Veterinary Clinic
